SCRIPT: (From a poem by Jacques Prevert). France 1950. We are in a small town just outside Paris. It is mid-morning on a fine clear spring day. The school is a big square building with big windows which look out on to the surrounding trees. In the classroom of this elementary school, a rather strict and haughty teacher is holding a writing lesson.
